She looked out of the window. Sleet and rain. Rain and sleet. That’s all she saw. What would she not give to see something other than the gray sky? Earlier she would have thought it an omen; an indicator of the journey ahead but would have rubbished it in the same breath. Omens and signs, what century was she in? But this journey was now proving the possible existence of curses and bad luck. It was cursed from the beginning; everyone who learned of it told her not to go through with it. Was she crazy? “Are you out of your mind?” “Don’t be foolish please, it’s very risky!” “Why do you want to do this?” For the last two months, that was all she had heard, day and night. But the young are often brave and the brave are almost always foolish. It was a truth universally refuted which gave it all the more credit.
